For those of you raised on Captain Crunch and Saturday morning cartoons, the above van may look very familiar. Yes, It’s the “Mystery Machine”  from the beloved animated series “Scooby-Doo”. Many of you may not have known that the cartoon van actually had a real life counterpart. Well it did, and it came from Dodge.

The A100 series van was produced from 1964-1970 by Dodge. They also produced a L-Series truck based off the van. It either came with a V-8 or a V-6 and had the option of a 3 speed automatic transmission or a manual version. The engine was mounted between the driver and passenger.

The video below actually shows one of the vans used by Hanna-Barbera to draw a caricature of the “Mystery Machine”.

It would have been nice to see all four sides of this vehicle to make sure it had the double door in back and a slider on the passanger side. Other then that the van looks spot on except for the spare tire mounted in front(it was missing). The owner did say it was used as concept art. So the question is is this undeniably the mystery machine? Very cool if it is.
