Safety On The Road – DUI Checkpoint Apps Removed From Apple App Store
Section 22.8 of Apples App Store guidelines states…
“Apps which contain DUI checkpoints that are not published by law enforcement agencies, or encourage and enable drunk driving, will be rejected.”
A few months back US Senators asked for a ban on mobile apps that notify users of DUI checkpoints, speed traps, and locations of speed cameras. In response Apple has opted to pull any app that displays DUI checkpoints from their app catalog. RIM has also decide to pull DUI apps from their store as well. Apples largest competitor Google (Android OS) has decided not to pull the application from it’s store. They refuse to remove the apps simply because they do not violate current application policies that they have in place. Google has never been a company to go lock-step with governments. This may be something that they eventually cave on though, as Driving Under the Influence is heartily disapproved of by the majority of Americans.
