Eminem Sues Audi Over Ad
We recently did a post comparing the Chrysler Super Bowl commercial to a recently released ad by Audi. The ad blatantly copies aspects of the Super Bowl spot.
Well, it looks like Eminem thinks the new Audi ad has crossed a line. Eminem’s Detroit based publisher “Eight Mile Style” has filed a cease-and-desist order against Audi. The reason…the ad uses a song that sounds like, or is very very similar to, Eminems song “Lose Yourself”.
The commercial has also sparked a reaction from Chrysler. (The following paragraph was pulled from Reuters)
Apparently someone believes that the definition of copyright laws is the right to copy others’ materials, including world-renowned successes created by Chrysler Group brands,” commented Chrysler Group spokesman Gualberto Ranieri, responding to the new Audi commercial, which first aired at a press event in Berlin May 19. So far, however, Chrysler has not said whether it will seek legal recompense.
Audi has not released the ad in the U.S. and we don’t assume they will. Maybe German law doesn’t protect intellectual property the way we do. Maybe they just wanted some attention.
