Marchionne Tells VW Boss “Hands Off Alfa Romeo”
According to a post by “AutoEvolution” VW has shown some interest in purchasing FIATs Alfa Romeo division. Volkswagen Chairman Ferdinand Piech has made statements that have insinuated that he could do more with the company under his lead. Apparently he hasn’t had his ear to the wall when it comes to Marchionnes (FIAT CEO) plans for Alfa. Big things are happening with the brand, and a US launch is expected in 2012. According to the post Marchionne made the following statement, “As long as I am CEO of Chrysler and Fiat, Mr. Piech will never have Alfa Romeo. It’s hands-off. I told him. I will call him and I will email him,” Marchionne said according to Autonews Europe. “I’m not the one who bought Seat. He’s the one who bought it. I don’t know if he can [fix it], but he needs to try. For those of you who don’t know what Seat is, it’s a Spanish car company owned by VW that to many appears to be a bit stagnant. In my opinion Marchionne is an outstanding CEO. Good things are coming for Alfa Romeo.
